Bonnaroo 2013

Bonnaroo 2013 went by WAY too quickly. It’s hard to believe that one week ago today I was on the farm, sweating my ass off! Hope you all had a groovy time; how fantastic was Paul McCartney?! Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Pretty Lights and Tom Petty were also up there for me.

This year I successfully camped with a convoy of 5 vehicles- our group came in from Bermuda, New Jersey, Alabama, DC and Florida, believe it or not. We somehow grouped up at Walmart, made it through security together, waited until the last of our vehicles had been searched and then parked side-by-side way out in the boonies by Pod 10. Met some great people; one of my Twitter followers actually swung by camp on Friday to introduce himself! Totally awesome group, totally awesome festival.

The Craziest Things I Saw, Did and Experienced:

  • There are vendors on Bushy Branch Road selling frozen, chocolate covered bananas. I watched a girl shove 2 down her bra because she was carrying 2 bags of ice and had nowhere else to put them. Sticky.
  • I drank a Papaya Passport smoothie from the Smoothie King stand out by Pod 10. It was incredible. That is all.
  • There is actually a stall in Centeroo where you can make your own bongo drums. Then you get to carry it around with you all day. Hahaha.
  • The mud ravines after the torrential downpour on Thursday. And everyone falling in.
  • Kids dancing on top of their cars in the scorching hot sun.
  • 5 of our group sleeping all together in a 2-person tent. And zipping up the vents to make it extra sweaty.
  • Free boob painting tent. Gotta love that job.
  • The crowd at Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and the 2 crazy guys climbing the tree for a better view. Also, the impromptu jam session at the end of their set and the leukemia survivor playing the tambourine on stage.
  • Free phone charging, donuts and coffee…if you listen to a sermon in the Christian tent. Free “Books of Life”.
  • The 4+ hour Pretty Lights set that lasted until the sun came up.
  • Survived 48 hours on no sleep and warm drinks.
  • The magical hoola-hoop that appeared out of nowhere and disappeared without a trace.
  • Tasted the most incredible soft pretzels, spicy pizza and crunchy falafel sandwich. Also delicious: chicken on a stick, gyro sandwich, garlic mac n cheese, blooming onion and mango Italian ice.
