I searched high and low for a method to delete multiple photos off of the memory card in my Nikon D5100 camera. Believe it or not but I could find NOTHING- not an official guide, not even a Yahoo answers thread- to tell me how to do it. So here we are: I figured it out on my own and now I'm doing a post. I hope that this saves others the pain of individually purging 2000 photos from their memory cards.
How to Delete Multiple Photos In One Go on a D5100:
- Turn on your camera with the memory card inserted.
- Press the review button (rectangle with a triangle in it). You should see one of your photos appear on the screen.
- Press the Menu button. You should see a list of icons pop up on the left hand side of your screen.
- Select the top icon (the rectangle with a triangle in it). This brings up the PLAYBACK MENU.
- Move the cursor to the right and highlight Delete. Press enter to bring up the Delete Menu.
- Choose either “Selected”, “Select Date” or “All” to delete either a) the certain images you select, b) all images within a date range or c) all images on the card. Use the buttons that appear on the bottom of the screen to select your choices and delete in batches. Voila, you just saved yourself a lot of repetitive button mashing.
THANK YOU!!!!
Thank you! That worked.
Thanks I dont know why I found this so difficult, it was an easy selection on my old camera. Just need to learn the new settings on this one. But thanks very much for the quick fix.
Glad to help. I also couldn’t understand why it was so tricky to find!
thank you so so very much. I tried everything. This was so easy
does anyone know if you can restore deleted photos off the nikon
?
I don’t know, I’m sorry. I did a bit of looking around and it seems like maybe there’s a software solution you can download to your computer? Didn’t find anything about restoring them right from the camera.
Is there a way to select a range of photos without having to select each one? (For example, can I select photos 1 – 100 without having to select 100 times?)
Hmm, I have not yet found a way to do that. Such a bummer!
use delete by date.
if you have a few in the date range, do a skylight retouch on the ones you want to save. the photo will now have current date
The current date essentially copies that image from the group that you plan to delete so it’s not lost. I did that as I had a few I liked amidst about 200 I wanted to delete. And skylight filter doesn’t change the image very much that I could see.
You would think that they would mention it in the manual. I couldn’t find any information on it, or figure it out either. I was just going to format the memory card until I found this site. Thank you!
Thank you for this. You just saved me lots of time.
Awesome, my pleasure.
After shooting many pictures throughout an event and shutting the camera on and off, I find that I loose all my pictures. Has anyone else had this happen? The first time I thought it was a bad SD card, but it happened again today with a different SD card. Could I be deleting lots of pictures on accident?
Thank you! That made things a lot easier!
thank you rockstar!!!!
hey thanks! haha
Thank you sooooo much! This is exactly what I needed.
thank u very much. i always find it tedious to delete file by file.
Thank you thank you thank you, have spent months wasting my time doing each of them individually. You’re a star.
thank you so much! xxx
Hitting menu button but nothing is being displayed. When the camera is turned on the info display screen does work. I can’t get any other menu items.
Thank you very much for posting this: you indeed saved me a great deal of time. BTW mine is a D5200 and the same procedure works!
Fantastic! Worked like a charm on the D610 as well! I had intended to delete all pics on card before vacation, then started shooting before doing so. I was running short of card space when I found these instructions. Saved a lot of button mashing to be sure!!!!
Thank you!! I’ve taken a zillion pictures just trying to learn my camera and did not want to delete them one at the time!!
I OFFICIALLY LOVE YOU!!!!
