Since I visited Kusadasi, Turkey in April I have been meaning to write a review of Kafkas Spice Bazaar. It was on my list, I swear. Well this morning, as I was shuffling through an old notebook, out fell the business card from the little store and I said DAMMIT! Today is the day.
Kafkas Spice Bazaar & Home Wine/Spice Market is a small shop near the entrance to the cruise boat terminal in Kusadasi. Entering from the street you are greeted by several friendly staff members and two walls covered in shelves of wine bottles. Lovely. That’s my kind of store!
I was attended to by a very nice man named Necef. He helped me choose a wine from their collection and then let me sample a few different types of Turkish delights. I’m no expert, but their Turkish delight (or “lokum”) selection was incredible. Moist and chewy on the inside, studded with bits of nuts and fruit, coated with a delicate layer of confectioner’s sugar. To die for. Needless to say I had to buy some. Necef showed me all of the various flavors and even gifted me a decent sized slab for being such an astute listener. Haha! I could have sampled their lokum all day!
When next you are in Kusadasi, be sure to check out this shop. And don’t forget to say that The Flying One sent you!
